Breakwater Books

In March 2008, Breakwater entered its 35th year of publishing as an independent publishing house. Breakwater Books Ltd., which now includes Jesperson Publishing and Breakwater Distributors, is known not only for the high quality of its titles, but also for its breadth in fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, poetry, and educational curricula. Many authors and titles maintain strong links to Newfoundland and Labrador and the North Atlantic, while other Breakwater authors hail from all parts of Canada as well as the United Kingdom, and write about topics and themes of national and international interest. <!–Breakwater Books Ltd. was founded in 1973. Its express purpose was to publish books and material that preserved the unique culture of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Maritime provinces. Its mission was to establish in St-John’s a publishing house that adhered to the highest standards of excellence and to use the educational institutions in the region as the means whereby the rich cultural heritage of Atlantic Canada is inculcated in curriculum resources. Since the early seventies, Breakwater has published over 500 trade and educational titles making the company the largest publishing house in Atlantic Canada and one of the largest in the country. Breakwater has been successful in selling rights to several publications, such as Random Passage, Waiting for Time, The Sinking of the Titanic, Undertow, etc.–>
