The ANIE (Assessment of Numeracy for Education) is a teacher-developed tool that uses numeracy and performance standards to assess student understanding of math concepts, and plan timely and targeted intervention where it is needed most. This simple book introduces a single-page assessment template that encourages students to tell stories to explain math problems and helps them recognize the relevance of math in the real world. The book describes a four-step process for solving any math question, offers proven techniques for introducing the assessment template, and suggests easy ways to grade and interpret the results, along with student samples to illustrate the ANIE in action.
